how i view the THERAPEUTIC process
As a humanist, I believe in treating the whole person and all parts of you. No matter what is present, you will be met with nonjudgmental compassion and empathy. My role as a therapist is to facilitate your unique process to help you create awareness and ultimately relief and wholeness. I feel honored to hear your story and be a part of your journey. More often than not, through the therapeutic relationship, which usually looks like a balance of support and challenge, a new story will emerge, and you will be able to see yourself differently.
Through our relationship, I seek to know you, your mindset, what stories/messages you have told yourself, and what changes you want to see in your life. I consider my treatment to be individualized, evidence-based, and relational. The focus is on you and your process; through this client-centered approach, autonomy, emotional safety, and growth will occur.
Healing needs to be interpersonal because trauma is interpersonal.
Complex trauma develops within relationships because it happens repeatedly in connection with others. When the people who were supposed to be safe, caring, and trustworthy instead cause harm, it shapes the nervous system to expect danger in future relationships. As a result, forming and maintaining connections can feel difficult or unsafe for trauma survivors.
Healing requires practicing healthy relational patterns with supportive people. By engaging in safe, consistent, reciprocal relationships, old beliefs about the world being dangerous or unpredictable begin to shift. Because someone created the wounds interpersonally, the repair must also be interpersonal. True healing starts with connection.
The same hurtful patterns can play out over and over again in adulthood. Once healing begins, healthy, supportive relationships with others can be cultivated gradually. Safe, mutual, and caring connections can start with others.
